John Mayer is no joke
After a few days of political ranting, I think I need to re-enter into the world of the arts, specifically music. So let’s take a look at the current news.
First of all, Franz Ferdinand released their new CD on Monday entitled “Tonight: Franz Ferdinand. (I didn’t know these guys were still together.) In the NY Times they have a reporter join them on a night of debauchery and then talk about an epiphanous, sobering experience. A 180 turn in their lives… shut up. Nobody cares.
In more important musical news, The Fray is releasing their sophomore effort on February 2nd. This, my friends, should be a good one. Their first single, “You Found Me”, is already receiving radio play and fans are flocking to their myspace page to play and replay their tunes. I personally think it’s a job well done. They don’t look to reinvent the wheel, but they do write more introspectively. To fuse pop with lyrical meaning is to ensure a strong platform for the rest of your career from which to explore.
Speaking of good pop music, let’s talk about John Mayer. I consider this man the funniest man in the music business today. Instead of taking on the dress of “hunk” from his Your Body is a Wonderland days, he mocks his own fans by reading their blog posts and tabloids. He actually releases his own videos and berates them, too. In this video he puts Brad Pitt down, and pokes fun at his public break up with Jennifer Anniston. He says, Dear Brad:
“Your a man of strength, charisma, girth, honor, girth…and influence. You know like that guy in the movie the Curious Case of Benjamin Brat, Benjamin Brat, the older you get, the younger you get and right before you die a little tiny man baby you’re gonna discover the ability to time travel into volcanoes.” That just happened. And yes, he said girth. Not many people make fun Pitt, and for good reason. (But, I think he nailed it here.)
Chris Rock won’t even touch Brad Pitt’s flawless bone structure or eighteen adopted kids:
“There’s no Brad Pitt jokes. You know, what are you going to say? “Ooh, you used to have sex with Jennifer Anniston. Now you have sex with Angelina Jolie. You’re such a loser.” What do you say? “Ooh, your movies are big. You make $20 million.” There’s nothing to say about Brad Pitt.” Well John Mayer had something to say, and it was funny. At the end of the day, I just think Mayer either doesn’t care, or thinks we’re all losers for following him so much in the media… like right now.
